Nice to hear. I always like it when old ballplayers return to their old teams. Welcome back Ken!

He has been with the Reds for years and years in different capacities.

I know he WAS with us...but I was under the impression that he left completely for several years. Isn't that correct?

No. Ken has been scouting and advising the front office. Last season he was responsible for scouting the Florida State League. His role has changed year to year for at least the last 5. He has been wanting to get back on the field!
It's absolutely pathetic that people can't have an opinion from actually watching games and supplementing that with stats. If you voice an opinion that doesn't fit into a black/white box you will get completely misrepresented and basically called a tobacco chewing traditionalist...

I wonder if this will help the Reds get Ken Griffey Jr....

    Oh wait.

I'm in the wrong decade. We did that once already.

Reds’ top prospects need to bide time with Dragons
    By Marc Katz, Staff Writer
    Updated 11:38 PM Sunday, November 15, 2009

When Ken Griffey Sr. was added to the Dayton Dragons staff last week, it marked the completion of the most major league-experienced staff in the team’s 11 seasons.

Griffey, manager Todd Benzinger and pitching coach Tony Fossas spent nearly four decades in the majors, and all appear able to relate to younger players.

So congratulations to the parent Reds for assembling the staff.

Now, how about the players? A year ago, everyone in the organization knew the Reds were dumping on Dayton, a location where they’re trying to build Reds fans.

Nearly half the 2009 Reds played at one time in Dayton, and next season, that number should go over the halfway mark.

Increasingly, however, the Reds are bypassing their best prospects past the Dragons, so Dayton doesn’t get to see them, and doesn’t get to win.

The Reds say they are trying to develop prospects, not win at the minor-league level.

Well, how’s that working out? For each of the last nine seasons, the Reds have compiled a losing record. Why not develop a prospect who knows how to win?

It’s time to draft better and place those prospects better. It’s time to win some games in the minors. Love seeing Benzinger, Griffey and Fossas in the dugout. Want to see a few like them on the field.

Is it even worth posting anything Marc Katz writes?

Katz was fine up to his usual grousing. The reality is, the last few seasons, the top draftees have been more advanced than Low A or, if not, required further seasoning at Billings. Isn't it the nature of the beast when you're a Low A club? Certainly it's possible that some will have found their way to Dayton after some time at Billings. I think the last couple of years though have been because we're drafting better players who tend to skip Dayton.
