    Reds budget spreadsheet

Via Cot's, this might be a nice offseason reference.

    Re: Reds budget spreadsheet

Thanks for the link nate. Helpful to have on hand. Here's one vote for a sticky. It also made me wonder, any reason we don't have a links list? Even if the links were simply run past Boss Hog for relevance first, I could think of a few basic categories including:

    - Reds Blogs (e.g. Red Reporter, RedsMinorLeagues.com, etc.)
    - Other notable blogs (Cot's, Tango's The Book Blog, Jinaz's Basement Dwellers, Baseball Analysts, Baseball Think Factory)
    - Stats Resources (Baseball-Reference, FanGraphs, Hardball Times, Baseball Prospectus)
    - Other teams' "RedsZone" (e.g. Orioles Hangout or Sons of Sam Horn)

It would be awesome to have links available via a drop down menu in the red bar banner at the top of the page.

Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Is Rolen supposed to be on there? Did I miss him somewhere?

It appears to be somewhat outdated. Encarnacion is still on there, and Rolen is not. Also shows Jerry Hairston Jr., and David Weathers as free agents, even though they are no longer under the Reds control at all.

I asked Boss a few months ago to add some of the player pages to the "Quick Links" thingy up there and he did. But I think what might be better is for "Redszone" to sign up for something like a delicious.com account or Google whatever it is. Then, someone from redszone can be the "link czar" (or whatever) and manage the links for the site.

I'd volunteer to be the link czar because I'm anal about tags and categories.

Yeah. It's an excellent start and something I'd considered making a thread about. "Crowdsourcing the Reds budget." I'd started a Google doc and wondered if anyone here would want to help put it together as it's somewhat time consuming to transfer from Cot's to a spreadsheet. I'd be down to do it if others folks are interested though.

It'd be easier to curate that if the board would support editing some old posts after 90 minutes. The inability to do that is one of the reasons the FAQ forum is largely untended.

As far as links go, one wouldn't need to curate is there would simply be a link to all of "RedsZone's" links which would be tagged outside the site. So, maybe there would be a "RZ Links" under the "Quick Links" button above and the would go to a page with links culled by RZ members ordered in a neat, orderly fashion.

Maybe this tangent is better suited for the Site Feedback forum.

    Re: Reds budget spreadsheet

I started a thread in the feedback forum for this tangent.

I also integrated parts of Cot's spreadsheet with my own here. If anyone's interested in crowdsourcing this, PM me with your email addy and I'll add you!

    Re: Reds budget spreadsheet

I thought I'd just keep the revision notes on the spreadsheet here. I've moved each year to it's own sheet so you can click through the bottom left to go year by year. I'm thinking about adding a summary sheet as well.

Help on finding and adding the data is always welcome as I'm much more of a layout guy than a data guy! Just PM me with your email addy!

    Re: Reds budget spreadsheet

I added another sheet with "To-dos" and a page for 2011. I'm kind of forgetting about 2009 because that's so last year and now focusing on 2010.

Nate, the season-by-season breakouts are helpful, but I would love to see the top-line salary figures all on the same page - presumably your net amount column. Perhaps there's just an intro sheet with the aggregated figures for easier consumption?

Agreed. I mocked up something simple. You can add whatever you want to it and if you're not a spreadsheet nerd like me, I'll fill in the formula later.
