    Basketball attire

Whats with the 'sleeves' that basketball players are wearing these days? I think Allen Iverson was among the first I remember seeing them on a few years ago, but I'm watching the UK game tonight and see several players wearing them.

Is it a modern day sweatband? A fashion statement? Is it medical?

    Someone enlighten me.

Mostly a fashion statement. But it does help keep you from sweating all over everything. Where I work currently, if I know I am going to be in some real hot spots (900 plus degrees) I wear some ua or Nike coolmax to keep my clothes from getting drenched.

Are you talking about the elbow sleeve?

If I remember correctly Iverson wore it because of an elbow condition. It took off on the playgrounds and streets and has become a fashion statement now.

I'm fine with the sleeves and other stuff under their jerseys. It's those baggy gauchos they wear that I think look odd.

Some of the players originally wore the sleeves becaue of tatoos deemed inappropriate for the league. Don't ask me my sources though, I'm just going off memory.
