Oh how sad. I LOVED that show growing up (I actually forgot that Adam Sandler was on it!) and thought it was the funniest show ever. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
"I tried to play golf, but I found out I wasn't very good." -Joey Votto on his offseason hobby search

An MLB.com reporter asked what one thing Votto couldn’t do. “I can’t skate or play hockey,” Votto said. “Well, I can skate ... but I can’t stop.”

I met Ober, Sandler, Colin Quinn, Steve Treccase, and Kari Wuhrer at my brother's comedy club. They were doing a college tour of Remote Control and were staying in Cedar Rapids during their appearance at the U of Iowa. The best part of the night was my brother checking Sandler's ID when he came into the club. We went to a bar with Ober, Quinn, and Wuhrer after and he seemed to be a pretty nice guy although he and I were interested in the same girl that evening. Quinn was a lot of fun
More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can't wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that's not only better, but also more directly involves me.

Kenny wasn't like the other kids.

    My alltime favorite MTV show.

That is a bummer. I always thought it was a shame that Colin Quinn, Adam Sandler and even Kari Wuhrer went on from that show to much higher profile gigs. Ken Ober was the understated glue that held it together.

More like the beginning of MTV's effort to get people to watch for more than 15 minutes at a time. It must have worked, too.

He was also in the Blues Traveler video for their song Runaround
My dad got to enjoy 3 Reds World Championships by the time he was my age. So far, I've only gotten to enjoy one. Step it up Redlegs!

I think I read somewhere that he was in all the Blues Traveler's videos becasue they considered him a good luck charm. Or I could just be delusional.

Too bad. Nice memories of blowing off doing my homework watching that show.
". . . acquiring J. Blanton from Oakland for, apparently, Bailey/Cueto, Votto and a lesser prospect. I do it in a second . . . The Reds' equation this year is simple: Make Matt Belisle your #3 starter . . . trade for Blanton, win 85 or more, be in the mix all summer." - Paul Daugherty, Feb. 8, 2008

I wish they would replay REMOTE CONTROL on the Game Show Network.

    Another article:

SANDLER & LEARY PAY TRIBUTE TO OBERADAM SANDLER and DENIS LEARY have paid tribute to U.S. TV personality KEN OBER, who died on Sunday (15Nov09).
Ober was found dead at his Santa Monica, California home, aged 52. His cause of death was unknown as WENN went to press.
The actor and former game show host was best known for his presenting duties on MTV show Remote Control from 1987 to 1990.
The game show launched the careers of Sandler and Leary, and they have been quick to pay tribute to their mentor.
Sandler says, "Ken Ober was one of the sharpest, quickest, sweetest guys I ever met. He was always a great friend and I will miss him very much."
And Leary echoed his pal's sentiments, adding, "Kenny Ober was and always will be the quickest wit in the room. As the star and host of Remote Control, he was a welcoming ringmaster who helped to kickstart the careers of numerous talents, including Adam Sandler, Colin Quinn and myself.
"He will be remembered always by each of his friends not only for his massive talent but for his true, deep and enduring friendship."
Ober is survived by his mother, father, stepmother and a brother.

Being of baseball mind and body, I thought this thread was about Ken Oberkfell when I read the title.
