    Khalil Greene???

He was once a rising star, but anxiety problems have derailed his career. Another fresh start, new medications, and/or intensive therapy and he could get a second chance to overcome his handicap. He could be a low cost gamble and a second chance at a lifetime. Social anxieties are very hard to treat and medicational treatment for his disorder are difficult to pinpoint, but Cincinnati might be a good place to reload his career.

I'd like to see the Reds take a chance on him.

Cincinnati would be a great place for a guy like Greene to reestablish his career if he has anything left. Great hitters park. Low pressure city. Only Janish standing in the way at SS. How about a minor league deal with an invite to spring training?

And that is exactly what we'd be taking..... a CHANCE.

I wish only the best for the guy in his struggles with social anxiety disorder. It is a very real, and troubling disorder that I have witnessed first hand because member's of my wife's family struggle with it, and so does my oldest son.

We've seen what it can do to an individual in Votto. And to be honest, regardless of the help and medications, it's something he will struggle with the rest of his life.

Again... wish Greene only the best, but it's not a wise move for the Reds right now IMO.

That depends on what kind of contract he requires. If we could get him for a minor league contract the risk would likely be minimal with the potential to help out both the person that is the player and the team. Just because someone has a mental disability doesn't mean he should automatically be written off. Although, I think I remember reading that the Reds were concerned about Votto missing more time in the future due to relapses so they're probably not that interested anyway.

He's had three pretty good seasons (2004, 2006 & 2007) where he was more than a 2.5 win player. If he could turn in a similar season, he would definitely be an upgrade to the position as he's capable defensively and has some pop. Considering he might be a low-cost flier, I'd say give it a shot.

Not sure on Greene. I wanted him a lot last year and even wished that the Reds would deal for him and take on his contract. The Reds passed and were a lot smarter than me on that one. The Cards moved him off SS last year because his range had worsened so much. Not sure if his emotional problems caused him to let himself go a bit and lose a step that he can recover with some conditioning or if he's permanently lost a step. If he can't handle SS defensively, then he has no purpose. If he can, then he may be worth a look. At this point he's worth a minor league deal with a spring invitation only in my book. Given the opportunity in Cincy along with a park that will help build his resume if he plays and the fact that he probably won't get a big league deal elsewhere, that may be pretty attractive to him if his head is right.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Greene is (or at least was) a very good defensive shortstop. But his offense is beyond terrible, and his OBP makes Willy Taveras look like Barry Bonds. I wouldn't hate the move, because it would be low risk. But it's just more of the same IMO. It's not really a move that's going to get us anywhere, or improve the team much at all.

I'm not all that excited about Greene, but his OBP numbers do not "make Willy Taveras look like Barry Bonds..."

    2009 OBP:
    Greene: .272
    Taveras: .275

    2009 OPS:
    Greene: .619
    Taveras: .559

    Career MLB hitting:
Greene(7 seasons): .245/.302/.422 for an OPS of .723
Taveras(6 seasons): .276/.321/.328 for an OPS of .649.

Well, I said that a bit tongue in cheek, didn't mean it in a literal sense .

My point was, the guy is awful at getting on base, clearly. And he was actually WORSE at getting on base last year than Taveras. And I can just picture a Taveras-Greene 1-2 combo at the top of the lineup next year.

If you couple his off field issues with his lack of production, I just don't see this adding up to much of anything.

Now I'm not saying he can't overcome his anxiety issues. Pete Harnisch is a guy I remember having trouble, and he flourished upon coming to Cincinnati. But I don't think Greene is the answer to anything in Cincinnati.

I wouldn't bring up Janish if I were you, it's poor salesmanship.
