This one will be a runaway... Fire up #19 and leave Silva off of it...

Matt Fairel. Lefty starter who had success in A+ and should finsih 2010 ready for AAA. Could be a realistic rotation option by 2011.

Not sure I get the love for Silva. He had a decent debut in the GCL, but even with a 400. BABIP didn't knock the doors down.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

There are probably about 15 players I'd pick before Silva--and I was very impressed with Silva. I just think the Reds' pitching prospects are sorely underrated.

Probably because there isn't enough information available on the pitching prospects (scouting reports) and of course their relative volatility.

Every year there's one guy I have to vote for about seven times before he struggles across the finish line. This year I'm proud to say it's Donnie Joseph.

Re: Who is Redszone's #18 prospect?

I would love to see somebody (assuming that Silva wins here) post scouting reports on their own personal top 5 remaining pitching prospects... I personally feel guilty for falling in love with the bats and not looking at the arms as much as I probably should...

I'm with you on this one. This out of the blue man-love for Silva baffles me. Here's a few that I would easily take over Silva's 31% strikeout average.

    1. Rojas- amazing glove, bat coming on
    2. Serrano- great college year, very good pro start, big arm
    3. Fellhauer- better than Silva's first year and in Dayton.
    4. Sappelt- 295 average in Fla league, best centerfielder in system, 42 SBs.
    5. Joseph- big arm albeit a relief pitcher
    6. Sulburan- big arm, needs consistantly
    7. How about Howard Johnson- GREAT first year
    8. Henry Rodriguez batted 336!!! in low rookie ball
    9. Jordon Smith- known prospect, just injured last year.
    10. Del Rosario- tore up all leagues last year.

I also like Tuttle, Lecure, Cline, Ondrusek, and Fairel better than Silva. That's 15 other prospects right there.

In his last 32 ABs, Silva batted 250 and had 11 strikeouts in low rookie, I just don't see it. I must have missed something.

Silva has five solid tools and as a raw 18-year old he hit .280/.372/.462 - .834 OPS in the pitching friendly GCL. Yeah, he strikes out a lot right now but he also walks at a solid rate. You gotta remember that he was only 18 years old this past season and was in his first professional season. There's plenty to like about Juan Silva, IMO.

Look, I hope you're right. I'd never heard he had five tools. I wonder why he was drafted so late if he had all these raw tools. I'll be cautiously optimistic now on Silva and will certainly be watching him very closely. However, right now I see many others I like much more than him. We'll just have to agree to disagree for now and see what happens.
