Rangers talked to Reds about Rhodes.

    Rangers discuss Rhodes with Reds
The Rangers met with the Reds today and left-handed reliever Arthur Rhodes was a prime topic of discussion. The Rangers have some interest but didn't get very far in the discussions. They would still like to add at least one more left-handed reliever.

What about Rivera from the Angels?

Bay's most interested suitors appear to be the Mariners, Angels and Red Sox. Boston isn't believed willing to go all that much higher than the $60 million for four years that they originally offered. But Bay loved his time there, so perhaps he would give them a slight discount. The Angels and Mariners are battling on a number of fronts. But the Angels' interest is apparent, especially with them shopping two other outfielders (Gary Matthews Jr. and Juan Rivera).
    From here

Plus defender for LF (15.0 UZR/150), .810 OPS, and was a 3.4 WAR player last year. If they are shopping him he would be a great 1-2 year stop gap for LF. He made 3.25 million last year, and I'm not sure of his contract status for 2010 and beyond.

Another player that some of us wanted the Reds to get last year. Why won't they listen? Anyway, here's his contract details:

    3 years/$12.75M (2009-11)
re-signed by LA Angels as a free agent 12/19/08

    09:$3.25M,
    10:$4.25M,
    11:$5.25M

award bonuses: $50,000 for All Star; $75,000 each for Silver Slugger, Gold Glove, LCS MVP; $0.1M for WS MVP; $0.15M for MVP ($75,000 for 2nd or 3rd in vote, $50,000 for 4th or 5th)

Cheaper than Willy T even, considering his production.

I would have liked to see it also, but I have the feeling that Cincy would have had to eclipse that by a decent margin to get him out of LA.

Orioles, Rangers Close To Millwood-Ray Swap
By Tim Dierkes [December 9 at 1:20pm CST]

The Orioles and Rangers are close to swapping pitchers Kevin Millwood and Chris Ray, reports Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun. The Rangers would of course send cash in the deal.

Looks like the Brewers are about to sign Wolf. He was a guy I thought the Reds should go after but that was assuming a shorter deal (looks like the Brewcrew are offerning 3yr/$30M with a option year too).

I wanted them to target Hardy, Wold, and Cameron.

Hardy would've been a viable option given the final price. Wolf seems to have turned out to be a bigger risk than my calculus would accept. It remains to be seen about Cameron.

Pretty interesting winter meetings thus far....

The Red Sox waiver claim awarded, they have assumed total control of all Ramon Ramirezes. Good potential for confusion-related comedy relief.

Wrong, there's a 3rd Ramon Ramirez in the D-Backs system. Well, don't I look foolish.

JFay says Jocketty has been in talks with Craig Counsell.

I'm not sure if I like the sound of that.
