Youre choices (not including Notre Dame) at this point (if the Big T(welev)en are adding the following teams (without getting geographically insane no Ga Tech):
BC
UConn
Kansas/KSU
Maryland
Missouri
Pittsburgh
Rutgers
Syracuse
Virginia
Thats it. The Big T(welv)en isnt going to sniff at Iowa State and any Texas school besides Texas and that gets shot down because they are not likely going to want to take on TT, Baylor, and the rest of the little sisters. Same with Oklahoma/Ok St. So lets leave those and ND out of the equation for now. You want to talk about tradition which of those schools really add much to tradition?
Missouri: Would probably make the most sense giving Nebraska another rival. St. Louis market, little tradition.
UConn: Very little football tradition, strong basketball tradition. The stadium would be by far the smallest in the Big T(welv)en.
Pittsburgh: yes about 25 years ago. What else do they add? They are covered by OSU and Penn State. They would be a kick back to Penn State to give them a "closer" game.
Kansas/ KSU: They didnt get a sniff from the Big 10 the last time for the same reason ISU didnt, it is believed they wouldnt add to the football side and football $. Plus they'd be a packaged deal, Kansas MIGHT get a look for the basketball tradition if they were seperate.
Rutgers: Played in the first football game 140 ish years ago. What have they done since then? Squat. They bring the NY tv market about as much as WVU would bring Washington DC.
Syracuse: School with some tradition and hasn't been good since Donnovan McNabb was running around and pulling miracles out his... backside. Upstate NY, good basketball. Again as likely to truely bring the NY market as WVU would bring Baltimore.
Virginia: Founded by Thomas Jefferson has one of the largest alumni polls and research grants in the US. Population of 7 mil in the state. One possibly big problem Va Tech. Also help open up the Tidewater region for recruiting for the rest of the Big T(welv)en.
Maryland: Would get you on tvs in DC and Baltimore. Maryland should help more on the basketball side. Has had some successful years throughout its history. Also has a largish base for research funds. And judging by the willingness of all conferences at playing at Fed Ex field that adds to the value of Maryland.
If youre looking at expansion I believe that Maryland and Virginia add more (even if its not immediate) than the Big East Schools.
