    Re: Scott's 2009 Year-End CD Compilation

    Hi folks!

The download's ready, so without further ado:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=b...476659b227c2af

This link will take you to a folder where you'll see six files. Move your mouse cursor over each filename and a Download button will appear. There are three ZIP files- Disc 1, Disc 2, and Bonus- and three PDFs (track-by-track notes for the two main discs, brief track notes for the bonus).

Some of you, I'm sure, don't need the basic instructions I've included below- but they're here anyway for those who might need them.

    ---
You need to extract the mp3s from the ZIP file before you can do anything with them. (WinZip or WinRAR should work fine if your computer acts puzzled by ZIPs; both programs are free on the web.) If you want to see the tracks in iTunes and listen to them through that interface or load them onto your iPod, you'll want to create a folder with the extracted files in it and then "Add Folder to iTunes" from the iTunes File pulldown menu. Create a playlist in iTunes and/or your iPod and use the Track # data I've got in there to get everything in the correct order. The bonus tracks are just numbered according to alphabetical order by performer name and don't really require ordering per se.

If anyone has any trouble with extracting the ZIP files, please let me know. I probably won't be able to fix your computer for you if it's broken, but I can definitely help with basics.

An important note about these downloads: when I burned Discs 1 and 2 onto CDs, I used the Options tab in a song's info screen in many cases to stop the track early. This was done so each playlist could fit onto an 80-minute CD-R. The point of this? If you have the download tracks and want to burn them to a disc, you'll have to either discard one or two songs from each disc OR do what I did to get everything to fit.
    ---

One other important note: there are a few tracks that contain some of George Carlin's Seven Dirty Words. It's nothing you wouldn't hear in a PG-13 or R-rated movie (although I will not knowingly use a version of a song that contains words Caucasians are not entitled to use.) The majority of songs are clean enough for radio on their own.

I think that's everything- please feel free to distribute the folder link to individuals (please do not repost it on social networking sites or public message boards; I'm very serious about that). It'd be nice to know where it's going (copying my email address, drscott46@gmail.com, on forwarded messages works fine). I know the RIAA isn't suing people any more, but that doesn't mean that there aren't people and organizations out there who don't try to stop any kind of distribution regardless of whether it's commercial or not. (This is definitely the latter.)

Happy holidays! I hope you enjoy this project as much as I do. If you scope all of this and would rather just have a CD mailed, send me a note with your mailing address.

Hope the music helps you get over that Huey Lewis, there, Pat. Also, it was only an extra 28 cents to send the discs to the Great White North.

Okay, I don't feel too bad then. If I like your stuff I might feel the urge to send some music back your way lol.

A tip for itunes users/windows users.

    1. in Itunes create a playlist called "Doc Scott 2009 Disc 1"
    2. Go to extracted folder called "2009 Disc 1", go to "Edit", choose "Select" , then choose "Edit" and then "Copy".
    3. Then go to your playlist in iTunes and choose, "Edit" and then "paste"

    rinse and repeat.
School's out. What did you expect?

Wow! I haven't even finished disc one, and I'm loving it (except for the hip hop, but that's easily skipped).

Scott, dunno if they are already on there but have you heard the Big Pink album? I would think "Dominos" or "Velvet" would fit perfectly with your list and they have been receiving the same level of attention/reviews of most bands in that list.

I am kind of an Anglophile. Every year you'll see a fistful of tracks of stuff that I've acquired from a blog or something somewhere that's either never getting released domestically or won't for a period of time.

When I was in college I used to buy Q Magazine for nine bucks a pop every month. That particular compulsion's gone away but the tendency towards the limeys remains.

Got mine in the mail, and it's outstanding. Thanks so much Scott, for the awesomeness itself, and the very quick delivery to boot. Great stuff.

    Re: Scott's 2009 Year-End CD Compilation

I do still have a few extra copies left over that are all ready to go, so send me a PM if you're just seeing this now.

Also, I've noticed a new high for downloads of the digital version, which is great. However, almost 50% of the people who got the ZIP files have passed on grabbing the PDF notes document. Does anyone care to say why? I'm just curious, that's all.

I'll echo 'Stache's comment. Thanks a lot for doing this. The music is great and I enjoy your notes on each song, as well.
