    Kevin Coddington

There is a nice interview with Kevin Coddington at the link below. I have talked with Kevin many times and found him to be one of most modest and genuinely nice people that you would ever meet inside or outside of baseball. He is a guy you pull for and I think he has a chance.

If you listen to the interview, you may agree that he sounds like a guy who is focused on continuing to improve.

Nice. Coddington's a guy who I think ought to now be included on our top-40 ballot. Based on last year, and his apparent defensive skills, you could make a case for him as the top catching prospect in the system.

72, didn't Johnny Bench say something about Coddington being the best-looking defensive catcher he saw last spring? Did he show that in Dayton?

He was solid defensively. Not Gold Glove, but solid. Big upgrade on Devin defensively (in fairness, Kevin was two years older than Devin was in '08). Kevin is a tall catcher. He is 6'4" and built more along the lines of a Mauer. Tall, thin. Unfortunately, he went into a slump in late August and even though he was around .300 all year, his final average dropped under .280.

I suspect that the August slump was what he had in mind, in the interview, when he talked about the grind of a 140-game season, and last year being the first time he'd been through it.
