    He was Steve Phillips' wingman?

Seriously, I hope this isn't due to his stroke he had a couple of years back. Whether you agree or disagree with him, he's always an interesting read.

But who broke this story? Did Buster Olney beat him to it?
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

    Agreed.

I always thought ESPN was a bad place for him.

That would be awesome. I love Peter Gammons.

Wow, I figured he was a lifer. Like Chip and a few others said, I wonder if there is more to the story and this is a health issue. I hope not.

LOL at the Steve Phillips wingman comment. Come on, that's not fair. Gammons doesn't get beer goggles that bad.

    Yep. I'd like that.

He's also 64. ESPN is a fast-paced place and it seems that all the older guys start to move towards "special projects".

    MLB Network is more baseball-speed.

Always liked Peter Gammons especially when he reported a lot of Jim Bowden / Reds info, during Bowden's Reds GM era, that never quite turned out like PG thought it would.

It makes sense but he's not going to be able to write if he's with MLB Network. He can go on and talk about this trade and that trade but there's nowhere to read it. Now maybe he doesn't want to write anymore and if that's the case, MLB Network would be a great fit.
