Yep. There are some WVU football/UK basketball here where I live too. It's better than Tennessee I guess....

Is Mitch Barnhard(sp?) still running things at UK? He sure turned things around for athletic department when he came aboard.

    Yep.

To be honest though, had it not been for getting John Calipari, Barnhardt likely would have been shown the door with the bungling of the Gillispie hire. The other departments have improved(baseball, football, womens basketball), but its the mens basketball program that is the cash cow at Kentucky.

If Travis Ford would have been coaching (the second choice after Cal), you had better believe Barnhardts head would have rolled.

Barnhardt is an earner--I don't think he was as close to getting canned after the BCG fiasco as some have reported.

When Barnhardt was struggling over the decision to bring Coach Cal into the fold, it was not met with unanimous approval within the AD. When he asked for council under Dr. Lee Todd (UK president), Todd said that he would stand behind his decision no matter who was selected to coach the basketball team.

The reasoning was that Todd intended to step down within a year or so and told MB that he was safe (at least until the next university president came on board).

I don't believe Ford was the 2nd choice behind Cal. Barnhardt would've gone for someone more established, IMO, if Cal said no.

I could have seen John Pelphrey here, who is not much more established than Ford is. Obviously both being former players already gets them one foot in the door but certainly doesn't mean anything concrete.

Barnhart had to be forced to even interview Coach Calipari by the search committee that was recommended to be put together to Dr. Todd. Dr. Todd is very impressed with the improvements in other areas as WVRed mentioned, but it is all about men's basketball, truthfully, and many people of influence aren't impressed with Barnhart, even as Calipari basically fell into his lap.

This might be the worst hoops game I've seen all year. You could call this great defense, but I would lean towards atrocious offense.

Sometimes it is said neither team deserved to lose. The opposite could have been said tonight. Had a last minute chance to go down for this one and declined. Good call by yours truly.

As much as I want to agree, I think if Cal said no that Ford is the only one who would have likely taken the job. Once it became public that Cal was the "one", I don't think a lot of coaches would have wanted the distinction of being Kentucky's number "two", "three", or "four" option. Ford would have said yes if offered, and Barnhardt's seat would feel like a tiki torch was underneath.

As for the game, Cal admitted after the game that he made a critical mistake that almost sent the game into OT with the last timeout. What is even more amazing is that NOBODY from ESPN seemed to notice.
