I'm trying to withhold my enthusiasm until the Reds confirm it. This almost sounds too good to be true. The Reds never do anything like this.

Never say never. The biggest name in the game came to Cincinnati 10 year s ago.

If this is true, does this mean that Harang or Arroyo will be traded? Jocketty did say that the team was at payroll limit. Unless the deal is backloaded, I don't see how Reds can afford all three.

I'd try to deal one of them for a young SS.

Cueto, Chapman, Volquez, and Bailey will be here for a long time.
Then you have Bruce and Votto on offense. If you can get a SS to build with for the future then you might have something.

    Trade Arroyo.

    Go get a legit SS.

Why don't the Yanks/Sox throw 50 million at this guy? I just don't understand the lack of interest from the big spending clubs.

    What a great move though.

I want Arroyo and Harang in the rotation in 2010 to eat innings while Bailey and Cueto continue to grow up. With Maloney as a placeholder and Volquez, Chapman and Leake all possibly ready in 2011, and guys like Owings, Klinker and Lecure as disaster options, I'm thinking Travis Wood becomes expendable.

Keep Travis Wood (I never thought I'd type that), trade Matt Maloney (I'm sure I've typed this many times over).

I'd keep both. All but Chapman are righties. Lefties with great changes could come in handy at the front of the bullpen, along with DRH.

But Maloney won't bring anything back. Wood could be a key piece in a package for an actual good player.

Re: Jeff Passan: Reds sign Cuban lefty Aroldis Chapman to five-year, $25 million cont

Wow for one day atleast I felt like the Bankees,Redsox fans do all the time.I was watching espnews around 1:00 this afternoon and it came across the bottom of the screen that he had signed with a team.Well I kept reading it and I seen the first three letters Red so I said the redsox got him. When I seen that it was the Reds I bout fell out of the couch lol.

Anyways they started talking to a mlb guy that works for them and he said it was a risk for the reds to sign him.He went on to say that it will take Chapman a year or two in the minors b/c he needs to mature and grow up.Has anybody else heard that this kid does'nt like to listen to coachs that have tried to help him?
    I can spell,I just can't type!!
