Of course, the signals are strong that Harang, Arroyo, or both will be gone by the end of 2010, if not sooner.

No doubt that this is an excellent gamble by the Reds. But it presents a dilemma for the sports media which are now faced with prominently mentioning the Reds this off season.
It's not exactly like the sports media has been shunning a plethora of news worthy moves by the Reds....

John Fay just posted on his blog
Please welcome me back from furlough.

The Reds are, indeed, talking to Cuban left-hander Aroldis Chapman. I’ve got a call into Walt Jocketty but haven’t heard back.

The Reds are close to wrapping the deal up. It could be for as long as 10 years.

I’ll update if I find out more.

Chapman, 22, pitched for Cuban National team in the World Baseball Classic.
Hugs, smiling, and interactive Twitter accounts, don't mean winning baseball. Until this community understands that we are cursed to relive the madness.

If this was 30 million for 10 years, it would be unbelievable

10 years is, yes, a bit crazy. But 3 million a year is , well, a bit like highway robbery.

Not sure how all the reports could be that far off in terms of money/years but I would certainly welcome as many years as possible.

Why would Chapman do that though? Face it, if he's as good as advertised he should only want a 3-5 year contract so he can establish himself as a legit TOR starter and then go get the monster bucks.

If it's true, they could take their sweet time in developing him correctly...

I think Fay was just saying we don't know the terms yet and threw that out there as a way to say it COULD be something. No way its for 10 years.

I think we can safely assume that if it's for ten years, he'll bring home more then 3mm a year.

If the hype abot Chapman is true, this is the best move in a long time. A young TOR arm was a big hole in the system.

Props to the Reds and all involved.

Anybody care to try posting a Chapman timeteable? I'm not up on Cuban prospects as much as I would like to be, but given the circumstances and the hype it seems like a really good move anyway.
