The Milwaukee Brewers have signed former Cincinnati Reds outfielder Norris Hopper to a minor league contract, a source said Thursday.
Hopper, though, does not an invitation to spring training, as was first believed.
The 30-year-old Hopper last played in the majors in 2008. The Reds traded him last June to the Chicago White Sox, who then traded him again in August to the Washington Nationals. He split the season between the Triple-A affiliates of those three organizations, hitting .281 with 23 stolen bases.
In 2007, Hopper played in 121 games for the Reds and hit .329.
Hopper would earn $430,000 if he makes the Brewers' big-league roster.
