    PROject proJECT 2010: Juan Francisco

Post your prediction on how you think Juan Francisco will do in 2010. Use any stats you wish*. I'll compile the results and (attempt to) generate an "average" result for everyone to mock, deride, praise and engage in "I told you so-ism" one year from now. I'll try to put up one player every couple of days which should get us close to spring training.

The pitchers can be seen here.

The hitters can be seen here.

*Please try to include playing time whether that's games, AB, PA or innings pitched.

starting left fielder by May 15th.

    .275/.325/.475

Due to his mammoth home runs he becomes a fan favorite.
Reds cheerleaders cheer "Juan Juan he's our man..."
Reds announcers extend his last name "Franciscoooooooooooo"
Young women throw their panties onto the field when he comes up to bat.
    Even Marty Brenneman likes him.

OK. The last one is a bit of a stretch.

Where did all of that OBP come from? Why does he only get 210 at bats if he makes the team out of spring training?

He won't be the starting left fielder and he can be send down and brought back up multiple times. I'm just saying I think he'll have a great spring and earn a spot on the club to begin the season.

And all of that OBP is coming from where?

Doug, I'm not an expert by any means. I'll admit that I just kind of threw some numbers out there that I thought might be reachable for Francisco. I'll be wrong. Would it be impossible for him to have a .341 OBP with the other numbers I put out there? Isn't there a chance he develops some plate discipline and walks a good deal?

There is a chance it happens, but with the numbers you provided you are looking for Francisco to walk about 25 times to reach that OBP. He has never walked that many times in an entire season at the minor league level before. It would be downright incredible for him to do it in 40% of the playing time at the highest level in his first year.

Seems like other players who haven't done things in the minors get projected to do them in the big leagues all the time on here.

I agree that its unlikely for Francisco to walk a lot, but other guys are routinely projected to do more than they have ever done at AA or AAA.

    It's puzzling really.
