I voted for Mark Serrano but I considered changing my vote to Henry Rodriguez. I'm beginning to like him more and more...

DD Gregorius. Defense at shortstop? Check. Solid plate approach? Check. Good numbers? .314/.363/.387 as a 19 year old in the Pioneer League.

And for the same reasons, I'll again place my vote with Henry Rodriguez... Probably can't go wrong with either choice...

No revelation here, but it's interesting that we're inadvertently ranking the shortstops in the system. 1. Cozart. 2. Hamilton. 3. Rojas (not counting Valaika anymore). 4-5. Rodriguez/Gregorious (although I'm not convinced that Rodriguez is a true SS). 6-7. Arias/Valor.

Unfortunately, none of those guys is likely to be at Carolina this year, unless they decide to let Rojas skip a level. Which I doubt.

    Why is it unfortunate?

The reason I took Gregorius over Rodriguez was simply the advantage of solid numbers at a higher level.

What does his defense project to be? Does he have the neccessary range and arm to stick at SS down the road. Or will he be just Keppinger-esque, good enough to play it but not good enough to be a true positive there?

While I haven't seen it the scouting reports are good.

Well, with that many intriguing SS prospects, it would be nice if they could be distributed among all the farm clubs. But unfortunately there's a gap at AA, and in Carolina the position will probably be manned by the likes of Shane Carlson or maybe Alex Buchholz. (Speaking of Buchholz, I don't think anybody has even brought up his name in the course of these polls. One bad season seems to have rubbed him clean off the slate of prospects.) I suppose it's also a possibility that Eric Eymann will be sent there to play short.

No system has prospects at every spot up and down the system.

I took Del Rosario (might as well get it over with), but I'm probably switching to Didi Gregorius after this one.

I don't know if there will be any prospects in AA this season.

(Though that may be hyerbole, it's not by much.)

In my humble opinion Sam Lecure has gotta be on the list of top 30 Reds prospects.

    Why?

He looks like a lesser version of Ramon Ramirez to me. I don't see him making the roster because there are better guys ahead of him and by the time the team sorts through them, even if enough crash and burn to make it to Lecure's place in line, by then guys coming up behind him will pass him by. His best chance is in the pen and the team has a similar large crowd there now and IMO even better guys (Joseph, Thurman, Valiquette maybe Pearl and Boxberger) a year or two away. Since I can't see him making the roster, his only real chance to have much value would be as a trade piece, and I just don't see any team giving much more than a small amount of cash or a low level non-prospect for Lecure. I do think teams with less depth may give him a chance if he were freely available.

I went with Jeremy Horst who may also be in Lecure's situation in a couple years, but he hasn't been around as long to move into the suspect range yet though with Leake and Chapman now around and Klinker's big year, he has much less chance of getting a shot than I thought last year after the injuries to Buck, Lotzkar and Thompson seemed to open a hole and the Stewart trade seemed to widen it.

All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!
