    Re: Teams you thoroughly despise

College: Louisville, Pitt, Miami (ditto on Charlie Coles being a total class act), Xavier, Notre Dame
MLB: Cubs, Cardinals, Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Braves, Dodgers
NFL: Pittsburgh, Dallas, New England, Rex Ryan.
What if this wasn't a rhetorical question?

All models are wrong. Some of them are useful.

I wouldn't say I despise them, but I when the Packers lose, I typically feel a short jolt of joy.

I'd rather listen to Kelch read the phone book than suffer through Thom Brennaman's attempt to make every instance on the field the most important event since the discovery of manned space flight. -westofyou

    Re: Teams you thoroughly despise

When I was younger, I used to get into sports to the degree where I despised certain teams just because my team had a rivalry with them. These days I've tried to keep things on the friendly rivalry level because it brings less stress in my life. However, I still reserve my strongest dislike for certain teams in certain sports. Number one on the list are the Pittsburgh Steelers. While most people rever and respect the Rooney family and the team they put on the field, I've always felt there has been a certain degree of arrogant classlessness displayed by the players and the fans of that team. While I don't include certain well spoken Redszone Steelers fans in that group, I'd say it is completely impossible to carry on a civil discussion on football with a good percentage of their fans.

#2 would be the Yankees. Yankees fans don't get me as riled up as Steelers fans and I have some good friends who are dyed-in-the-wool Yankees fans. My original dislike for them stems from growing up in Ohio at a time when the Reds faced them in the World Series and the Indians would get pounded by them on a regular basis. Today, I just don't like how they abuse the current market situation in baseball to buy up just about any major free agent they have an interest in. That and they're on TV all the time. For those who say a successful pro sports league needs a dominant team in the NY market, I would answer that the focus of major media on the NY-Boston markets has really curtailed interest in baseball for a lot of us in the Midwest.

#3 is Italy in International Soccer. I just can't abide by the style of play they tend to resort to in the World Cup.

Forgot the NBA, even though I never really followed except for the Celtics occasionally, I would put the Lakers up there just because of Kobe, the fans, and Jack Nicholson.

I've seen Charlie Coles mentioned twice in this thread. This has honestly become one of my favorite videos. Absolutely loved his response in this game.

I've seen Coles at a couple speaking engagements he's done. The man is nuts. In a good way.

I've also heard a story about an incident after a bad loss between Coles and Herb Sendek, when Coles was an assistant at Miami. Maybe the funniest story ever, but no way I can repeat it here.

Coles is one of a kind.
