Re: Who is Redszone's #35 prospect?

I went with Daniel Corcino. Signed with the Reds in 2008 out of Azul, Dominican Republic. Turned 19 years old in late August. Struckout 30 batters in 25.2 innings with Billings as an 18-year old. Scouting report from Baseball America: 89-93 mph fastball with sinking and tailing action. One scout rated his fastball as a 60 on the 20-80 scale. A 60 makes it a plus offering. His breaking ball features tight rotation and has plus potential, and he also throws a change that has life but is still a work in progress (hopefully Mario Soto is working with him). He sounds similar to Johnny Cueto. He's one of my breakout candidates in 2010.

    Kevin Goldstein on Corcino:

Corcino is a small righty but his stuff is good -- he still needs better command and secondary stuff, so he's far from the list.

I went with Jeremy Horst. Upside may only be a #4 pitcher, but he is fairly polished, has a good frame and has had pretty good results so far.

Re: Who is Redszone's #35 prospect?

Cline is the highly drafted guy in the group, who did well at GCL last season at 19. I'm with him here.

Horst is 24 and just started AA. He did well in the lower leagues, but I would rank Cline higher.

Others I like are Thurman, Valiquette, Wiley, Pearl, and at this stage of the rankings, Watson.

At this point, we're splitting hairs...but I'll keep going with Pearl as my favorite. I like Cline, Hildenbrandt, and Thurman though too.

I still like Bucholz ahead of a lot of these fellas, I went with him. I wonder what people will do when they don't see the poor environment of the FSL dragging guys down anymore. I predict Bucholz, Mes and Soto will all be higher in the rankings next off season. And while Sappelt did fairly well there (in a smaller sample) I suspect he will end up lower in the rankings next offseason.

    Tim (Eglin AFB, FL)

Todd Frazier: Everyday player with an impact bat or a utility infielder at best?

    Jim Callis (2:44 PM)

    More the former.

Its funny how differing the opinions are on Frazier at BA. Callis doesn't seem to like him nearly as much as Cooper does. Going to be interesting to see who wins that battle in the Top 100.

True, but Callis agrees that Frazier is more of an impact bat than a utility guy.

Callis is a Cubs fan, IIRC. That automatically pushes him down the list of my favorites at BA. Cooper is near the top, as is Ben Badler.
