Keith Law Ranks Reds 10th Best Organization

It's insider information, so I don't know what I can quote, but he ranks the Reds as the 10th best organization. To be honest, he doesn't say much, except to say a nice mix of near ready guys and high ceiling young guys.

And this is pretty telling, since he has not been a fan of the Reds for the most part until now.

Yeah, I read that a while back in a Baseball America chat. Did Law mention Duran?

From a scout's perspective...can being too tall present a problem?

That's a good question. I figured it just meant an enormous strike zone, which presents more holes. Also I think it can be difficult for tall people to get their whole bodies working in sync....but when they do, they can generate a lot of power. I'm really talking out of my you know what though...

Yes -- it makes swing and pitching mechanics more difficult to perfect. You see very few 6'7" hitters through the history of the game -- Tony Clark, maybe Kingman, Frank Howard...

I would have expected each one of these guys (except Heisey) to be about 10 spots higher than they are, but other than that these rankings seem somewhat reasonable.

The Reds future looks very bright. The scouting department has done an excellent job. Two years ago the Reds had 5 different players in the Top 100, that is a very impressive turnaround.

Wow, Junior Arias in the top 10?!? I'm a big fan of Junior Arias but I never expected him to be that high. Arias is the fifth Reds shortstop prospect to be ranked at least in the top 14 by various writers.

Hopefully between Rojas, Hamilton, Arias, and Valor- one of these guys can break through and become a legit SS prospect in the mold of Barry Larkin (or Kurt Stillwell.)

RedsZone doesn't have him in the top 34.
