    Home theater speaker opinions.

I'm thinking of buying new speakers for my system. I was hoping for some opinions. I'm not gonna break the bank, but I want something decent. I don't watch too many movies with the volumne cranked up, but I do once in a while. I listen to music as often as I watch movies, so I care about that too. Most od the music I listen to is acoustic or at least, no bass thumping. I don't want to wake my neighbors or their neighbors, either. My AV receiver is an Onkyo 5.1. It has no HDMI and I don't really care about that. It has the typical 100 watts per channel, any other specs I don't remember. I'm looking at this- put together as one system-

    or putting this together=- http://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-Synerg...4774392&sr=1-5

    with http://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-Synerg...4774466&sr=1-4

    and http://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-Synerg...4774466&sr=1-8 a

    and http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance

    or these 2 systems

    or http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance

Or would I be as well off putting the money into 2 floorstanding towers? I don't really care that much about surround sound. I'd appreciate any opinions.

If i was single....I'd be putting alot moew $ into this, but....

I've been to dinner at Jimmy Buffet's house, and I've eaten it at a homeless shelter. And there's great joy and harrowing terror to be found in both places.

Klipsch speaker are really a love them or hate them brand. Their highs in general are very distinctive, and not everyone's cup of tea. I can't stand em but ymmv. Try and go listen to them if you can.

The Polk Tsi's are ok for a lower end system, but the Polk subs in general are not highly thought of, and I agree from my personal experience. Subs do not really have to match the speaker brand, but I'm not up to snuff on low end sub recommendations.

I'd stay away from the Polk package, and don't have much experience with H-K stuff.

If you can stretch you budget juuust a little bit, the Energy RC-micro system here is considered to be one of the better low end prepackaged systems.

Plowing 400ish bucks into some floor-standers would likely be better for music, but you really do miss a lot without a sub and surround setup for movies. Tough call.

Edit: Here is the low end sub most people seem to recommend. No experience with it myself.

I have some Klipsch speakers and they sounded horrible when they were sitting on shelves but much better when mounted on the wall and integrated with a woofer.
School's out. What did you expect?

I would strongly advise a sub-woofer, especially for music.

The most important thing for an audio system is the space in which it's going to be used.

The second most important thing is how specific components sound in that space.

I would recommend trying several different systems in your space and keeping the one you like best. Recommendations from others on specific systems are great and all but don't really tell you much about how things sound in your space when heard through your ears (and your spouse's eyes if you are married.)

YOu're telling me- I had a pretty big theater room built in my house- 102" screen, theater seating, awesome projector, Klipsch subwoofer, Yamaha receiver....and then went cheap on the speakers (they were Klipsch but were wayyyyy too small for the room) and boy, did it ruin all the other hard work.

Make sure you get the right size- I had this huge picture with tiny speakers...not good.

I went ahead and took the plunge with a 7.1 surround sysyem- Klipsch tower and book shelf speakers....just awesome.

My living room, where it will go is about 12 by 20 feet. Unfortunately, the speakers will have to go along the long wall. You think I could get by with something like these for the front right and left?

I am really thinking about just going 3.1 as I care more about music really that movies. Alot of what I listen to is acoustic.

With a sub, sure. Love Energys. Great speakers.

If you can though, go listen to them. So much of what makes a great speaker is subjective.

No idea. All I can say is, try to buy from someplace that has a good return policy so you can have an extended amount of time to evaluate how stuff sounds in your listening space.

Deal wise, check pawn shops for one. Great prices. That is where I purchased mine.

Can you do ceiliing mounts? We have those in our living room and, despite popular opinion, they sound really good.

I think the ones you show here at Vann's would work fine- have you locatd the studs to mount them?

Don't know- would probably use stands.

We used stands for awhile. And you can get creative with hiding the wires, too.

The point about the subwoofer above is also good- you can make any system sound awesome by adding one.
