They played high stakes poker, thinking the Reds would fold. When the Reds didn't cave and Sarasota was left holding the bag, they pulled out the big guns trying to get a new dance partner. That partner was the Orioles and they had to pay dearly to woo them.

Championships for MY teams in my lifetime:
    Cincinnati Reds - 75, 76, 90
    Chicago Blackhawks - 10, 13
    University of Kentucky - 78, 96, 98, 12
    Cincinnati Bengals - None
    Chicago Bulls - 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98

Looks like there are still a few less than enthusiastic Sarasotians.

There always are.... Again, so lawyers are going to make some money before the project gets done.

But... the project is such a major comedown from some of the original plans. All of the buildings shown already exist, they are just prettying them up.

Sarasota's inefficient government really costs them as the city and the county fought each other, and they had to shoehorn the stadium into the city limits, when there was readily available cheap land right next to I-75.

30 years or so ago, the City of Jacksonville Government merged with the county government. The city limits is the the entire county. But there is one commision, one police department, one school system, etc. This setup would have served Sarasota well.

I'm not well versed on the civics of Sarasota, FL but I think its been a more common occurrence in larger areas like Jacksonville where you are and like Louisville where I am.

The point that Sarasota government be it city or county have really screwed the pooch on this one though is correct.
