Obviously I am Johnny come lately on the subject but glad you had fun and your team did well. I would add to what others said by throwing these things out there.
Know the difference between talent and skill - Talent is god given ability and skill comes from a combination of talent and repeating proper technique. You may not be uber talented but skill will take you a long way.
Get good coaching - When you don't know the game that well yourself this is a hard one to figure out. The difference between good and bad coaching is tough to see sometimes early on but bad coaching can set you back and if you are talented enough to say play beyond HS you'll wish you had found good coaching.
Know your limitations and the game and as RedHeeler intimated with his story, think ahead. If you know what you are gonna do in every situation before it happens you will avoid alot of mistakes. If you also know what you are capable of then it will also help you avoid mistakes.
It's a team sport so don't forget that and play the game accordingly, and as always have fun.
