John Fay - Wrapping up a good spring in Goodyear

Anyway, I just wanted to go on the record about how much I enjoyed spring training in Arizona in general and Goodyear specifically.

I loved Sarasota. Siesta Key, where I stayed, is a little slice of paradise. It was a great place to spend six weeks. Sarasota is an old Florida town with a lot of charm and character.

That said, I wouldn’t trade covering spring Goodyear to go back to Sarasota.

    From Fay:

Just wanted to remind everyone that it’s a night game tonight. We’re meeting with Dusty Baker at 3 p.m. (6 p.m. Cincinnati time). I don’t expect to hear anything on the cuts or fifth starter before then.

I’ll post something as soon as I hear.

Article on Bryan Price from his hometown paper:

"Bryan was available with a great reputation," Baker said. "He communicates well with the pitchers. Everybody I talked to (in Arizona and Seattle), said he was outstanding. Even (the other day), the guys from Seattle came up to me and said, 'You're lucky to have a guy like Bryan Price.'"

Reds minor leaguer Matt Klinker on the difficulty of throwing a breaking ball in Arizona:

    Highlights from camp:

    - The curve ball is a little harder to throw in Arizona. Drier conditions make getting a consistent grip difficult; a little pine tar or sticky spray helped alleviate that problem.

We'll just refer to Matt as "the Ball Doctor" from now on.

    From Jamie Ramsey:

Now it's time to board a plane to Cincinnati...we're due to get back into the Queen City well after midnight tonight. After a fast sleep, a 1pm workout awaits the boys tomorrow at Great American Ballpark...and then it all begins Monday.

    Thanks a bunch OBM!!
"I tried to play golf, but I found out I wasn't very good." -Joey Votto on his offseason hobby search

An MLB.com reporter asked what one thing Votto couldn’t do. “I can’t skate or play hockey,” Votto said. “Well, I can skate ... but I can’t stop.”
