Dubito Ergo Cogito Ergo Sum.
Microsoft Security Essentials (Not sure if Win 7 comes with it, but it's a free virus program)
Advanced System Care, great program and the free version is more than enough.
IOBit 360, it's a part of advanced system care, but a seperate download is required.
Open Office.org.
By the way, if you go to cnet.com, it's a great source for reviews, etc. Not just freeware but hardware and "Electronics" in general, one of my favorite sites.
With the above programs running on bothy my XP and Vista Machines, it makes paying for slow, resource hungry virus/spyware programs obsolete.

The extra money i paid for the partially eaten fruit was more than worth it. With the solid hardware, durable casing, fast OS loaded with extras... Love my decision. Im a dotnet devleoper so I run VMWare's Fusion to run windows 7 inside the mac.
Best of both world to be honest. Windows 7 is pimp compared to previous MS operating systems but OSX beat it overall if you are in it for the casual user.

What's the best "freeware" registry cleaner? I'm getting an error every time I try to install Vista Service Pack 2. In researching the error, most places say that I have some registry issues. I just recently started using McAfee for virus protection, etc, but these issues were present before getting McAfee.
EDIT: The error codes are 490 and more recently 800B0100.

I dont know about best but I use CCleaner.
I like Glary Utilities. will also defrag your registry
Dubito Ergo Cogito Ergo Sum.
Revo Uninstaller - Uninstall almost any program and get rid of all traces.
Foxit Reader - Replace Adobe pdf viewer with this since many viruses and malware use pdf exploits
Sandboxie - Open up your browser, mail and other programs inside sandboxie to use them securely. Anything inside the sandbox cannot get out and touch other system components unless you allow them to so if a virus installs in the sandbox you can just delete it.
Deragler - From the makers of CCleaner. Though you don't really need a defragger if you have windows 7 since it takes care of your drive on the fly and such.
CCleaner enhancer.

Media Player Classic Home Cinema in conjunction with ffdshow tryouts
Handbrake--video encoding
CDex--CD ripping
ImgBurn--burning software
CDBurnerXP--burning software
MalwareBytes Anti-Malware free version
Super Anti-Spyware free version
PrimoPDF--print to PDF
Keepass--password manager
Of course, the real best place for "freeware"....
The Pirate Bay.
Or so I'm told...
I don't know if it's the best place for freeware, but it's the best I've found. Majorgeeks.com

Any suggestions for a free budget program?
