Why? He's terrible. I watched the Mets/Cards game on MLB Network today and came away very unimpressed with Matthews' defense in CF. He misplayed at least one flyball in the couple innings I watched. I even made the comment that I was glad the Reds decided to stay away from him. Guess I spoke too soon. He was a good defender earlier in his career but not anymore. He's not an upgrade over Balentien, Dickerson, Gomes, or Nix.

Not that I want him on the Reds but it was pretty windy at that game. Colby Rasmus misplayed an easy fly ball in the first inning hit by none other than the Private.
True, but he just looked so slow out there. UZR had him at -14.5 in the outfield last season and based on what I saw today, I can see why he was rated so low.
I didn't see much of the game after the 1st inning. I was home sick and slept through most of it.
You picked the wrong day to get sick. The Reds are on TV tomorrow.
The Reds being on TV tomorrow is a nice little birthday gift from Fox Sports Ohio.

I'd consider the source of the twit that tweeted and what he probably left off of this information. With the Reds budget situation, I can't see the Reds overpaying to get him.

Most of Matthews salary is being paid by the Angels- Something like 20 mil of the remaining 22.
Update: Mets on hook for $1mil per year, Angels paying the other 21.5 mil.
