Carlos Fisher, having a baaaaadd camp. Injured. Then hittable. Back to L'ville, directly.

Why did Fisher start this game? Do we have plans to try him as a starter, or was it just one of those things?

Just one of those things. They wanted him facing more major leaguers, who generally leave the game by the late innings when Fisher usually pitches.

Votto and Bruce both 2 for 2 today. The Reds would have scored already if they had them bat 3-4.

    Just sayin'.

Good to see Votto continue to swing the bat well. He's been getting on track lately. Nice to see Bruce begin to swing it well. He should be over 800 OPS for the spring with these two hits. (Not that ST numbers mean anything. Especially in Arizona.)

So Maloney and Fisher are ticketed for AAA, right?

Is that Cubs 8 and the Reds 1 after 8?

Good thing this is called "Spring Training, instead of "2010 Preview".

That Arizona factor doesn't seem to help the Reds offense.

What's the point of continuing to run Wells out there? Are they getting kickbacks from opposing hitters trying to make their major league team?

What's the point in even keeping Wells in the organization?

What's the aversion to having Votto and Bruce bat back-to-back? I know the lefty-righty "rule" is in play but Votto pretty much ignores which arm the pitcher uses, right?

I think it is due to inflexibility, fixation from past experience, or just plain bullheadedness. As we get older, people are more risk adverse. People don’t like change, one of the reasons for that beyond what is comfortable, is risk.

Both Bruce and Votto hit right handed pitching, and as you pointed out, Votto, hits both. I think that we also know that there is more than one player on the team that can bat cleanup. I think we also know that guys with the highest OBP can bat one, two and that catchers don’t have to always bat eighth etc.

Anything that they might be able to do, to milk another run here or there could help in the win loss column. Several games are lost by teams every season, by just one or two runs. So anything that could get another run, could help on the season. No one is saying anything in “absolutes”, or "all or nothing thinking", but, it could help to be a little more flexible.

No he doesn't have an all-star team or the "Big Red Machine", but, he could at least make sure that he is using his player resources to the best of his and their abilities to make it a little harder on the opposition.
