There's a story on the NY Times Yankees blog about a minor league lifer who has been flirting with .500 this spring who the Yankees have sent down to AAA, his 11th season as a pro ballplayer. Jon Weber was original in the Reds organization, playing for Billings in 1999, then Clinton in the Midwest League before being let go.
I thought I'd put this in the Minor League forum since he's still a minor leauger.Despite leading the Yankees in batting this spring, Weber — who in 11 previous professional seasons has never spent a day in the major leagues — was sent to the team’s minor league camp. His next stop: Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
At his locker later, Weber checked his cellphone messages with a crestfallen look on his face. “Things just didn’t work out,” he said. “What are you going to do? You can’t control something that’s out of your hands.”
