A change to the Extra Innings Saturday Fox blackout rules

There has finally been at least a little improvement made to the Fox Saturday blackout rules this year. In the past all Saturday Extra Innings games were blacked out before 7 PM due to Fox having games on Saturday's afternoons.

The new change is depending on the start time of the Fox game some games will now be allowed to still be shown at other times outside a shorter window for the Fox games.

Details of the change can be found here:

I don't know, those 2 Saturdays that fox has a game an 7:10, no other night games will be shown. That's a crock. MLB is still bowing to TV partners, and limiting what a customer can see.

At least this is something. A step in the right direction.

Let me say, though, that I'm awfully glad to be outta Vegas, for one reason, being blacked out w/ 6 different teams! They still need to come into the 21st Century for that aspect, though!

It's more fair. If you're showing game X, I can understand that you don't want to let me watch game Y on another station instead, I get that. But don't prevent me from watching game X or game Y while you're airing some stupid old movie instead.

Just wanted to add, teams can and should make some effort to schedule their Saturday home games so their out-of-market fans can watch. This gives them more choices to do so.

This is actually great news in my opinion. I don't have any problem with the exclusivity agreement setup the way they have it this year. I despised last year how you couldn't watch 1PM games and now that they have that, I'm quite happy. Most Sat. Reds games are after 7PM anyway, but they do have some 1PM games so it'll be nice to finally watch those this year (as well as the other teams).

The 1PM games are going to be the big difference. On the majority of the weeks where Fox shows a game at 4 PM the 1 PM games will now be available on Extra Innings. The few weeks like this upcoming week where Fox starts the game at 3 PM the 1 PM games will still be blacked out. But for 21 weeks of the year it will make a difference in making more games available. Then the two weeks where Fox is showing a night game the night games in that time slot will be blacked out but the day games will be available.

Yeah I agree. I think as reasonable people, this new scenario actually has logic to it and makes sense. It's definitely more "fair." Last year and prior years, it was completely unfair. I'm quite pleased.
