Why do many teams take an off-day the day after OD?

They had an off-day Sunday, or at least the Redlegs did.

Leave room for a make-up if necessary due to weather, I think, is the common reason given.

They reserve it it in case there's a rain out (or other weather problem) on Opening Day.

    Lots

It's a fail safe in case of weather. But even in the old days the teams that met on OD often took the next day off and then took the train to the opposing teams city and kicked off the OD for them.

I think it's just in case Opening Day gets rained out.

I understand why they do it, but it sucks having to wait all winter for Opening Day, only for them to play one game and then take the next day off. It makes it even worse when the Reds lose on Opening Day because you have to wait another day to see (hopefully) their first win of the season.

Its really one of the worst days of the sports year. You have Opening Day and the NCAA finals and then nothing the next day.

    I hate today so much.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Yeah. Having to wait another day for the 1st win is tough. Thanks for all the quick replies.

7 Games today, not to mention a full slate of NHL.

Lots of baseball out there aside from the Reds, I enjoy not being emotionally involved in games, plus it's a chance to watch someone else besides the Reds, some folks around here need to do that now and then, adds levity to the potential to rant.

Never really have gotten into hockey. Wish I could but I don't. I may watch the playoffs and watched the Olympics but if I don't have a dog in the fight I really don't care.

As for other baseball games I don't find myself watching those much either.

Understand the NHL, it's a learned habit.

Can't get not watching other teams besides the Reds, it's like only eating Dominos Pizza when you know there so many other joints in town with great slices.

Try some deep dish, NY Style, calzones or if you want to have a Genos Pizza Roll watch the Pirates.
