They don't want to eat that salary, so I say the chances are small. They are going to give him every opportunity to figure this out--which is probably a bad thing.
0. Because that would just be a downright awful move. He just gave up 5 hits in 5 innings and 3 ER. He left the game giving us a solid chance to win. From watching the game I saw a lot more swings and misses on pitchers, his slider looked sharper, and his fastball was hitting 93. Just because he may no longer be a Cy Young contender doesn't mean you just release him...we have seen he can put in some pretty dominant relief appearances.
No chance he is released. Slim chance he is traded. See Eric Milton from a few years back.
