Thursday, April 8 minor league updates (Opening Night!)

    It's Minor League Opening Night!

Louisville kicks off the season this evening on the road at Toledo. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 as RHP Sam Lecure will make the start for the Bats. It should be a lot of fun following Louisville this season as they appear to be loaded with talent.

Carolina gets underway at 8:05 down in Birmingham. I haven't seen a starting pitcher listed yet but I'm expecting it to be Matt Klinker. I'm looking forward to seeing how Yonder Alonso handles left field.

Our new affiliate the Lynchburg Hillcats start their season off at home against the Frederick Keys. The game starts at 6:05 with LHP Matt Fairel making the start. Notable position players include Devin Mesoraco, Neftali Soto, and Josh Fellhauer.

Dayton opens up at home against Lansing with RHP Josh Ravin making the start. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00.

Here's hoping to healthy and productive seasons by the Reds prospects.

I checked the weather. Lynchburg likely won't be playing today. It is supposed to rain all day and night. Everyone else looks good to go, though the weather in Toledo looks poor (mid 40 at the start and very windy).

I will be in Dayton and will try to bring some updates on things I see, but I will be spending a lot of my time getting pictures and video of everyone.

I'm looking forward to the games beginning. Hopefully Lynchburg doesn't get rained out but it's not looking good.

What's up with the new minor league scoreboards? Last year they had a link to the live boxscore and the Gameday feature. Now the boxscore link is gone, meaning you have to follow on Gameday to get updates. I don't get it.

Valaika just doubled to begin the 3rd inning.

Which really sucks because cell phones do not have flash yet, none of them, and so you can't follow the box scores through your cell phone.

Gregorius is considered a well above average defender at SS.

It appears as if MiLB.com is no longer providing in game updates for Single-A teams. Wow.
