    Rich Aurilia Retires

Once a whipping boy here by many (which i never understood because he was actually good for the Reds)...but anyway, the guy has officially retired.

    Re: Rich Aurilia Retires

There were a lot of veteran players like Rich this offseason who maybe didn't want to retire but who just had no job as a lot of teams took talented kids to camp instead.

Rich had a nice little career, whether PED affected or not. We should all be so lucky to retire in our late thirties with that kind of scratch. He'll probably turn up as a hitting coach in a couple years.

Championships for MY teams in my lifetime:
    Cincinnati Reds - 75, 76, 90
    Chicago Blackhawks - 10, 13, 15
    University of Kentucky - 78, 96, 98, 12
    Chicago Bulls - 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98

The Nature Boy contributed a lot to the fun 2006 season.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

The Reds missed his pop from the RH side of the dish when he left.

Interesting career to follow starting in SF....he's on my short list of players whose #'s were enhanced.

I remember him a major 'whipping boy' on RedsZone a few years ago, though he never quite surpassed 'The King Of The Whipping Boys', Juan Castro.

I heard that he will be doing some broadcast work for the Giants this year.

The difference was...Castro absolutely deserved it, Aurilia did not as he played well for the Reds. Many at RZ made Aurilia a whipping boy because they felt he was taking away valuable time from Encarnacion.

Have a great retirement, Rich. Spend tons of time with your family as I'm sure they missed you very much.
