If some club other than the big boys pays that, they will doom themselves.

Good luck Prince. Somebody needs to tell him that teams care about defense too. When he can play defense like Teixeira and Mauer maybe he'll be worth that kind of money. But considering he'll probably be a DH only guy by the time he's 30... I predict something in the 5/100 neighborhood.

Though, to be fair, this is standard Boras. The first rule of negotiating is anchoring as high as possible. You say $200 and $140 looks like you gave some major concessions. Boras isn't about getting "fair value." He's about getting maximum value. The only number that matters is the one on the contract he signs.

Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

It's Boros. take with huge grain of salt.

The problem he'll have is that Howard and Pujols will be free agents at the same time, and the Yanks and Reds Sox are set at 1B for awhile.

It will be an interesting situation in two years, that's for sure.

I had a discussion with someone about a month ago who thought the Red Sox might trade for and extend Prince Fielder to be their full time DH. I tried to be polite.

What about Fielder and Pujols to dh/3b in Beantown? Ortiz isnt getting any younger either. Get them far far far FAR away from the NL Central .

Some stupid team, maybe even the Brewers will pony that cash up, it will cripple them, he'll get hurt and be untradeable and the team will suffer greatly.

I'm seeking a 200M/8 year contract too. Doesn't mean I'll get it though. Honestly I wouldn't give that money to Pujols

Yankees need a 1B. They could probably choose between Pujols, Fielder and Howard. You really can't go wrong.

One to NYY, one to Boston, the third to LA or LAA? (Fielder, Pujols, Howard) Hard to see any other serious destination points for them.

NY has Tex, Sox have Youk. Angels have Morales, and have him cheap. Dodgers have Looney, and have him cheap. Mets are really the only team needing an upgrade at 1B that can afford these guys.

Ordinarily this would make sense, but Pujols is an upgrade over any of these guys--and I think any of the clubs would find some way to play one of the big 3.
