Truthfully, I'd bet against this all being a theme by the end of the year. They'll sniff .500 but the optimism has got to be shot for a ton of fans.

Personally, I put them at 79 wins and I'm enjoying watching some of the young pitchers throw.

If you did have optimism, you were banking on Rolen staying healthy, Bruce putting up All-Star numbers, and someone stepping up to be the TOR starter.

    Rolen Staying Healthy NO
Bruce putting up All Star Numbers NO
    TOR Starters NO

You've been duped again people.... just enjoy watching the young players play. Maybe one or two of them will in turn into bonafide Major Leaguer. That's what I'm doing for the rest of the year.

I take that back..... Look for OC and Gomes to have around the same walk rate all year.

OC can at least get on base by hitting for AVG. Gomes cannot. Gomes is a great bench guy.... ra ra, tough as nails, but he is not an everyday left fielder in the Major Leagues. Yeah he takes big cuts....so do Lumberjacks, but their swinging at tree trunks not baseballs.

I'm going to give it more than 2 weeks before making that assessment.

I think that's fair. I expect the SP to get marginally better. Their missing the strike zone at an alarming pace.

The bullpen is a strength. Arthur Rhodes is highly under-appreciated, Masset looks to repeat last year, Micah is nails as the long man, and Coco is consistent if anything. (just not last night) Ondrusek and Danny Ray have nasty stuff.

The hitting is below average and will be all year. Which puts us right around .500 by years end. The only hope is that the Reds finally trade some of these overly touted young players and get a proven bat in July. Adam Dunn, where art thou?
