“You could see in his eyes that he was hassling with being here,” manager Sparky Lyle said of Freel, who played for three major league clubs during an injury-plagued 2009 season. “He was a great professional while he was here, and would we like to have him? Yeah. But we wouldn’t have had him for long, anyway. I think all he had to do was prove he was healthy and he would’ve gotten signed. Who couldn’t use a guy like that?”
