Looks like it. He had three games with 8 or 9 strikeouts last season, but he allowed 3, 4 and 1 run in those games and none reached the 6th inning.

Gotta love the BB/K ratio and no home runs allowed.
That is a ridiculous statline. Have to think he'll get another shot in the bigs before too long.

Seems to be on the same schedule as Harang.

Yeah, but I am not completely sold he gets the promotion ahead of Wood or Chapman. It will be interesting to see how the Reds handle that. I'd be pretty surprised if Leake lasted the whole year in the rotation, so there could be spots opening from multiple angles.

Yea I thought so. I didnt follow him late last year that closely because well baseball season can be rough, but its good to see him finally put together a seemingly complete outing.

I dont know how you dont bring him up before Wood and Chapman if he keeps pitching even remotely like that. A sub 3 ERA gets you recalled especially if you arent walking people.

i think Wood could benefit from a little more AAA time. Maloney has 2+ years in AAA. i really don't see what purpose there is in keeping him there.

#1 Maloney replaces Harang in the rotation

#2 guys like Bailey & Cueto are quietly told that their rotation spots are NOT guaranteed for the entire season. tell them that when Chapman or Wood are ready one or both of them will lose their rotation spots if they (Bailey/Cueto)continue to pitch like they have. light a little fire under their you know whats. this ain't a C league softball team. guys are lining up in AAA to challenge them for their jobs.

I've been thinking this lately too. We've all sort of assumed that Bailey, Cueto, and probably Volquez would be part of future rotations, but we may have gotten it all wrong. I could see a 2011 rotation of TOR guy to be brought in, Chapman, Leake, Wood, and Maloney--giving us Bailey, Cueto, Volquez and Arroyo to get something for if possible.

I couldn't agree more. But Maloney dominated AAA last year and it took quite a while for him to get the call. And despite those dominating minor league numbers and a decent showing in MLB last year, he was at least 7th on the rotation pecking order this spring. I don't think the Reds front office is sold on him at all.

Was he on the 40 man last year before he got the call up?

Yes. And for the record, you must be on a 40-man roster to play in MLB.

You have to be on the 40 man roster to play in the majors? No way you don't say? What are you trying to suggest that I didnt know you have to be on the 40 man roster?
