Does anyone know why they call it the World Series and the team World Champs when its the United States that is only competing? I've always wondered this and same for the NBA. Shouldn't it be called the US Series or USA champs not World?

Blue Jays arent in the US.
It has to do with a owner way back in the early days like 1900's or so he wanted to differentiate baseball from other championships.
Before everything was global the title, World Series, made me sense. For Americans back in the day, the U.S. was 'the world.' The game began here and there wasn't any reason to title it otherwise. It was our game and we saw no further than our own shores.
