Bobby Cox Retirement Cake Contains Unfortunate Misspelling

    Hadn't seen this posted yet.

Cox was being honored for his 50 years in baseball. Senators Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) and Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) hosted a ceremony, inviting the Braves’ manager, as well as players and officials. But the cake, which was to read, “Thanks for 50 great years Bobby Cox” had an unfortunate and profane misspelling of his last name.

I went to University of Cincinnati with a guy named Richard Cocks. I kid you not. He was Australian and said that it had a different meaning there when he was born. We called him Dick Squared. He hated it.

Maybe the cake decorator was Australian?

I guarantee the men in blue busted over laughing when they saw a pic of this cake. Bobby "Cocks" is no friend of the umps.

Is Cox retiring? I hadn't heard that.

I'm not wholly convinced the misspelling was an accident.

I thought that too. Either someone really doesn't like him or someone is playing a prank on him. Maybe an umpire?

He's managing that team like he should have been out the door a decade ago. I'm disappointed I thought they'd be the NL's dark horse.

It's not easy managing when you don't have:

    * A Cy Young starter taking the hill every night & consistently getting 6" off either side of the plate,

    * One of the top 2-3 switch-hitters of his generation in his prime

    and

    * An other-worldly CF who could run down anything from Macon to Chattanooga.

He very well might be the best manager of my lifetime (i'm 41)

I'm not really a braves fan but I lived in Atlanta for 10 years in the (1993-2003) and he's a great manager IMO.

    I agree.

LaRussa may get a lot of ink, but Cox bridges the old-school and new-school style of managers seamlessly.

There's been worse. This is PG-13 at best.

Definitely. I'm as permissive as the next parent. I mean, just the other day I let Todd buy some red-hots that had a cartoon devil on the box. But they can't possibly think it's appropriate to show a misspelled name on a birthday cake!

It's baseball related, not political or religious, and you'd see similar or worse on Jay Leno?
My dad got to enjoy 3 Reds World Championships by the time he was my age. So far, I've only gotten to enjoy one. Step it up Redlegs!

Don't blame me. I've never baked a Kake in my life.
