We attended the Mudcats game tonight. I cannot believe the Mudcats actually won the game. I was extremely frustrated with the teams play. Maybe more later on that...a win is a win.
That was a fun game to watch.
Francisco is up to .244 already.
The Red Wings played like a high school team today. Their LF fell down on a gift double. The SS, 2B, CF, and LF converged on an easy pop but let it drop between them. They overthrew home once and the SS and 3B basically let balls through for hits when they didn't exactly try hard.
The Bats did hit the ball hard-- Francisco, Cozart, and Miller, especially. Some notes on the game:
Dorn had a screamer caught and ripped a single. He also worked a walk and K'd. This is my first game this year watching Dorn and I still like his swing. A lot.
Balentien's dinger was a no-doubter, but he still struggles with breaking balls. He hit from behind all night because he swung at everything.
Speaking of swinging at everything, Francisco worked a walk after being behind 1-2, which was probably the highlight of the night for me. He looked really, really comfortable at the plate.
Valaika's swing is quick enough for the majors right now.
Cozart hit a bomb in the first and made a really nice play defensively, well after the score was football-like. Really nice arm and quick twitch range.
Frazier had a good game at bat, but, then again, so did everyone else. He hit a groundball single, struck out (looking bad on breaking stuff), then hit another ground ball single.
Miller looked like a monster hitter all night. He smoked two doubles.
LeCure pitched well until he got tired (or bored) late in the game. His stuff is less than inspiring, as he only broke 90 three times all night.
I was talking to another guy who follows the Bats religiously and has since they came to town in 1981 (IIRC). He said Chapman has the best stuff he's seen in 40 years of following baseball at the AAA level. And no one is close.

I still maintain the Corky Miller for Norris Hopper deal was a very nice one for the Reds.
