    Dickerson out 4-6 weeks

CINCINNATI -- Reds outfielder Chris Dickerson will be out four to six weeks following surgery on his right hand and wrist.

Dickerson had part of the hamate bone in his hand removed on Monday. Doctors also cleaned out his wrist, which has been bothering him for a while.

Dickerson aggravated the wrist on a swing and went on the 15-day disabled list Friday. He batted .227 with no homers or RBIs during nine games this season.

The Reds called up outfielder Chris Heisey to take his place. Heisey was their minor league player of the year last season. He didn't get into a game during a weekend series in St. Louis, but started in right field on Monday against the Mets.

I hope Heisey is up to the challenge. He looked completely befuddled in his first AB against Perez.

The nerves of someone's first ML AB is off the charts.

I agree I want heisley to gets his shot with the circustances at the moment. Get him expirience and if he fails then go back to AAA and keep working hard. I fear tho that Dusty has him as the 5th of judging by 2nites lineup.

While I look forward to Heisey getting 4-6 weeks here, I'm also looking forward to getting Dickerson back, as he's instrumental to this team if they are to reach the playoffs this year. Dickerson's high OBP, speed on the bases, and Defense are all needed in both Left Field and Centerfield.

Kings while I will agree having dickerson healthy asap is a need I am still on the fence with him. Hes been a injury waiting to happen since he arrived and he hasnt really shown much more than stubbie in a late call up a few years a go. Im more in his camp then not but its getting hard.

He's certainly got the injury bug. This latest one proves it, for sure.

But, his career numbers have proved he's more valuable than our other choices right now.

His OPS' for last May, June, and August were .417, .394, and .487. Those are "monster" numbers to put up when you're a base-stealer/speed player with great defense. When he plays, he makes a difference over the length of a season.

His career .369 OBP speaks for itself. He needs to attempt more stolen bases, though.

Even willy t? I dont think so! Stubbs is a rookie not everyone can get called up and shine. Stubbs has not got it going like we would have hoped for but he deserves the oppurtunity as does dickerson which he hasn really had. Stubbs is taking walks and just needs to swing a bit more and when he does make contact. He is hitting the ball beter lately. The big thing is that when Chris does come back he needs to play somewhere and prove he can stay healthy and swing the bat and get on base like many believe.
