Homer takes an inning to get rolling. The second he's usually facing bottom of the order, by the third he's in his groove if he's going to find it. Lots of pitchers in baseball history had first inning woes. Coming out and mowing down the other team's best guys right out of the gate is one of the hardest things about starting. If Tom Seaver's career was made up of just the first innings, he wouldn't sniff the hall of fame.
If Homer struggles in the third when the top of the order comes back around, then its time to worry IMO.

When an ump calls one pitch a ball and another pitch in the exact same spot a strike...that's inconsistent. And he's done it several times already. No conspiracy...just poor umpiring.
