This is the downside of Dusty being a "player's manager". Whether Chris Welsh's comments about throwing Masset out there to get his confidence back are valid and in line with the way Dusty thinks, I don't know. But I expect they are.
Guys are are big league "veterans" shouldn't need a confidence boost though. Yes Masset is still relatively young and doesn't have "a lot" of experience, but you either know you can do it or you're not sure.
You don't send a guy who's struggling out there in tight situations. Let him get his confidence back, if he needs to, in more low leverage situations, then throw him back into the fire.
Why does Nick Masset have a job? If he's in the majors, he should have the Johnny Ruffin role from the mid-90s: mop up blowout losses.
