Uncommonly good relief pitching from the Mudcats tonight, in a 2-1 win over West Tenn. Following Scott Carroll, they got four scoreless, two-hit innings from Horst, Valiquette and Jordan Smith.

Good question. I was there and I'm still shaking my head. There were some nice defensive plays but it seemed the Bats were just jinxed the whole night. Plenty of balls in play but... nothing. Only 3 Ks.

    Maloney pitched very well.
Delgado still keeps me doubtful that he's really anywhere close to good.
    Jukich was solid.
Valaika needs to stay at 2B. He just doesn't throw well enough to be on the left side of the infield.

I wish he was starting in Cincinnati tonight.
Though I was kind of hoping Maloney or Wood would get the start, Sam Lecure was deserving too and he pitched a nice ballgame tonight. Congrats to Sam on the victory!

I wonder what the percentage is of first time MLB starters who go at least 6 and have an ERA of 3 or below.

I would say pretty high. I can't remember the last Red to have a "bad" debut.

Interestingly enough, Maloney's first start last year was 6.0 IP, 6 H, 2 ER also. But both of his runs were from 2 HR. He only had 1 walk and only 4 Ks.
