    Dontrelle Willis designated for assignment

Talk about a fall from grace.
"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

Tigers To Designate Dontrelle Willis For Assignment
By Mike Axisa [May 29 at 9:05pm CST]
The Tigers will designate Dontrelle Willis for assignment tomorrow, according to the team's official Twitter feed. The move will free up a roster spot for Max Scherzer, who is being called up to start tomorrow's game.

Willis, still just 28, has been a disappointment since coming over from the Marlins prior to the 2008 season. Overall he posted a 6.86 ERA in 101 innings with the team, including a 4.98 ERA in 43.1 innings this year. He won just two gamess in a Tigers' uniform, missing time with everything from knee hyper-extension to forearm tightness to anxiety disorder.

The Tigers have ten days to trade, release, or waive the former Rookie of the Year, but are still on the hook for his $12MM salary this season.

After being designated for assignment, Dontrelle Willis would like to play for a West Coast team, according to FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi (via Twitter). Morosi says the Diamondbacks are Willis' first choice.

Unless Brian Price goes to Walt and says he KNOWS he can fix him, then no way. Its a waste of time and resources to go after this dude.

Yeah, I know. Just similar storylines--young meteoric rise, overworked, then collapsed.

Cards might take a flyer on him. Try and have Duncan do some magic with him.

Good thought. They seem to have a couple openings. Personally, I think the guy has been done for a while. Piling up innings when a guy is young will do that.

Supposedly he wants to play on the West Coast. D'backs are reportedly his first choice.

Crazy to see how the famed FLA-DET trade turned out. One of the biggest blockbuster trades of all time, and every player involved has been a pretty big disappointment.

Miggy has always been a great player, but has disappointed in Detroit mainly with his off-field antics, which almost caused him to get shipped out of town.

The other players have all been on-field disappointments, at least so far.
