    Re: Griffey to announce retirement

My best memory of Junior was going to see him on Sunday June 24, 2007 in Seattle when he was there with the Reds. They had a big ceremony for him on Friday, but it was on Sunday that he hit two solo homers against the Mariners, and got a standing ovation from the Seattle faithful each time. The first homer was just over the left-center field fence, and Bloomquist jumped up and everyone thought he caught it, so there was a bit of a delayed reaction. The one later in the game was a classic no doubter to right....just hammered.

It seemed like every kid in the near sold out stadium had a Griffey shirt on, and he loved it. I remember him making a great catch in right field that day, and at one point near the end of the game Jr. doffing his hat to the fans. My kids and I loved it. Best game I ever attended....even though the Reds lost.
