It's amazing what happens when you age and your not on PEDs.
My favorite baseball player of all time. I can't wait to see him in Cooperstown.
He finishes his career in 5th place on the all time home run list with 630.
Talk about leaving on your on terms.
Best Player of his Generation. Hands Down.

A 100% class act and a 100% unanimous 1st ballot hall of famer. Junior represents everything that is good about baseball for me. His enthusiasm, energy, outlook, ability and joy in which he played this game IS baseball. I see that backwards cap and I just FEEL summer course through my veins.
Junior....thank you. For everything.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5244661"While I feel I am still able to make a contribution on the field and nobody in the Mariners front office has asked me to retire, I told the Mariners when I met with them prior to the 2009 season and was invited back that I will never allow myself to become a distraction," Griffey said in a statement.
"I feel that without enough occasional starts to be sharper coming off the bench, my continued presence as a player would be an unfair distraction to my teammates and their success as a team is what the ultimate goal should be," he said.
I don't think so. Even if he had ended his career here, I think he still would have gone in as a Mariner. The Reds have a long and rich history that spans centuries. Griffey basically is Mariner's baseball - at least, he saved Mariner baseball. I was glad he got to retire with them.
Good luck in retirement, Junior. You were definitely one of the best to ever play.
Baseball's sweetest swing.
Thanks, Junior.

His last AB was on May 31, 2010, a PH fielder's choice to 2B off Twins P Jon Rauch.
His last hit was a game-winning walk off single, on May 20,1010, off Blue Jays closer Kevin Gregg to win the game.

If a writer doesn't vote him in on the first ballot, they should have their voting rights revoked
One of the best ever. JR. will be missed.
If you have a losing record at Reds games, please stop going.
This retirement is clearly overdue but I'm glad he's not embarrassing himself anymore. I also didn't like his innuendo that the reason his numbers were so poor was because he wasn't playing everyday.
The Mariners would love for him to play everyday, they're really struggling to find production from the DH spot but he wasn't getting the job done.
Yes injuries did contribute to his recent decline but so did all the extra baggage he's carrying around. He's at least 25 lbs over weight
A bitter sweet day. Sad that it has to end, but glad that "sleep-gate" can now be put to rest and we don't have to watch him struggle anymore. The second best Reds centerfielder I ever saw next to Eric Davis, and a GREAT Cincinnati Red... which probably means more to me than anything. I don't expect him to go into the Hall as a Red, but I hope he can find some good words in his acceptance speach.
Congrats Jr.!!!!
