Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.
I think the call is that he didn't have possession of the ball.

One of the most stunning things I have ever seen in sports. He was clearly out. That should have been a perfect game. Oh my goodness.
I feel bad for Jim Joyce. He made a bad call but he'll never hear the end of this.
So? Who likes the "human element" in the game right now?

That was simply heartbreaking. It was so clearly an out I just don't know WHAT that ump was calling there. Not only do I feel bad for Galarraga, but I really feel bad for that ump. He's going to be feeling so unbelievably guilty after he sees it and he's going to catch such flack after it. Truly a shame.
just a horrible horrible call.
I wonder about the psychology of that call. Is it possible that it was an over-reaction to uncertainty. That is, he wasn't sure, didn't want to appear biased and so he made the other call. Obviously that happens in a nanosecond, but it wouldn't surprise me. Or to put it more simply -- he choked.

Jim Leyland not getting himself tossed is a shame too.
Can the commissioner invoke his "best interests of the game" clause and reverse an umpire's call?
.
Pathetic. I hope that ump is ashamed of himself.
