Both the Rangers & Angels have proven that having a number of good, young catchers in the system is no guarantee that any of them will pan out in the end.

I would be happy with any of these guys with the 62nd overall pick:

RHP Stetson Allie, OF Austin Wilson, SS Yordy Cabrera, RHP Brett Eibner, OF Jarrett Parker, RHP A.J. Cole, and RHP Brandon Workman. One of them should be available when the Reds pick. I have a feeling the Reds will pick Workman if he's still there.

This club needs some corner OFers with projectable powers. Not 15-20 HR 4th OF prospects (which the system is ripe with) or slow-footed, poor-fielding corner INFers who you try to hide in LF because there are

I want at least one of two honest-to-goodness corner OFers who have the mobility to field their position, but at the same time, have power that projects as middle of the order.

Then again, I want solid middle infielders who are plus defenders, but at the same time have the on-base ability to legitimately hit at the top of a major league order and I probably ain't getting that either.
Hey asking for All-Stars at every position isn't a bad thing. Until you have to pay them... LOL

If you are a Baseball America Subscriber, they just posted their Reds/Grandal article

    http://www.baseballamerica.com/onlin...0/2610153.html

Key quotes are that the Reds were certain Grandal was going to be gone at 12 until today, and Buckley talked up how tough it is to find catching and says Grandal is a well above average defensive catcher and a switch hitter with power from both sides of the plate.

If the Reds somehow net Cabrera I'd be amazed but thrilled. He's a very similar type player to Billy Hamilton, a raw but gifted middle of the field guy with an almost unlimited ceiling.

I know it's completely hypothetical, but I wonder who the Reds would have taken if Grandal had been off the board? And if McGuire had been available 1 pick later, if they would have taken him? Or if both guys had been off the board, would they have taken Wimmers? Or even Chance Ruffin??

Kyle Parker to the Rockies in round 1?

Why are Denver teams reaching on college QBs in the first round this year?

Players on the board I'd love to see slide to the Reds in the 2nd:

    1. Austin Wilson (although there is 0 chance the Reds could sign him and Grandal)
    2. Bryce Brentz
    3. Nick Castellanos (probably same problem as Wilson)
    4. AJ Cole
    5. Brandon Workman
    6. James Paxton
    7. Asher Wojo
    8. Derek Dietrich
    9. Yordy Cabrera
    10. Jarrett Parker
8.5 years later, we finally got Dietrich!

The Reds did quite well with the Grandal pick that year.

Good grief many of the other names bandied about turned out to be busts.

Yep. Then there was that Sale guy that many on this thread wanted to steer clear of.

Nick Castellanos would have been a nice grab
“The crows seem to be calling my name,” thought Caw.
