Report says he has outstanding control and poise. Referred to him as a smaller Josh Beckett.

Isn't this something we've done over the last couple of years? Grab some kid like this who's think about college and go above slot to sign them.

Baseball America on Reds 5th rounder Wes Mugarian:

Update: The Reds popped Florida high school righthander Wes Mugarian. Mugarian's last outing before the draft was in the FACA Baseball Classic, a high school all-star game in Florida. Here is what I wrote about him two weeks ago at that event: "Mugarian showed better velocity at today's even than he did in the summer. He was 90-92 mph in the first inning and touched 93. He mixed in a 75-77 mph curveball that he got under a few times, but he also threw some for strikes in on righthanders. The first batter of the game reached on an error, but Mugarian got the next hitter to hit a ground ball, which started a nice 1-6-3 double play. Mugarian got into some trouble in the second inning. He walked the first three batters he faced, but got another double-play ball on the fourth hitter and got out of the inning after allowing just one run to score. Mugarian was mostly fastball-curveball, but also mixed in a few sliders and changeups."

College hitters, HS arms. Not a terrible trend.

    Cisco's grandfather was a MLB pitcher. http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...iscoga01.shtml

Cisco is now my favorite pick from this draft. I like guys with history. Does anyone know who Galen Cisco coached for? Could be a sleeper.

Galen was Cito Gaston's pitching coach in Toronto.

Agree. I'm liking the overall strategy.
